Hanan Dowidar
Country Director at Drosos Foundation - Egypt
Hanan Dowidar is a development expert with diverse experience working for international organisations, government agencies, educational and cultural institutions as well as civil society associations. Such experience equipped her with a track record in research, project management, international cooperation, strategic communications and effective stakeholder relations.
Hanan began her professional career as an economist at the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation before working for the World Bank both in Washington DC and the Cairo Office. Such exposure provided her with complementary yet vastly different development work experience through headquarters strategic planning, field office implementation and grass root knowledge.
She pursued her career working as the Deputy Director of the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme, funded by the European Union and managed by the Egyptian Ministry of Scientific Research. The RDI Programme experience allowed her to acquire extensive knowledge in project management as well as EU science and innovation policies and practices coupled with practical operational tools.
Within the framework of the RDI Programme, Dowidar initiated numerous initiatives dedicated to engaging the public, particularly children and youth, with science. She pursued her efforts in this domain through volunteering and consulting for diverse organisations including as the Advisor to the President of the American University in Cairo (AUC) on informal science education initiatives.
Dowidar continued to focus on educational initiatives as the Head of Strategic Partnerships of 1001 Inventions, a leading British science and cultural heritage organisation. Hanan managed conceptualising, planning and implementing many 1001 Inventions educational initiatives around the world. Under her leadership, 1001 Inventions developed strategic partnerships with international organisations including UNESCO, World Food Programme and UNHCR. Also with many governmental, educational and private sector institutions. The global science and cultural heritage campaigns and projects led by her continue to engage with millions of people around the world.
Dowidar is currently the Egypt Country Director at the Drosos Foundation. Committed to unlocking the potential of young people, the foundation supports projects, programmes and innovative ideas that promote young people’s life and professional skills to enable them to become economically empowered and resilient.
